What sets a support coordinator apart from a psychosocial recovery coach?

While support coordinators focus on enhancing your NDIS plan and building capacity, psychosocial recovery coaches are specifically designed to assist individuals with primary diagnoses of psychosocial disabilities. With their specialized knowledge of mental health services, recovery coaches provide hands-on support to help you achieve your goals.

It is important to note that support coordination and recovery coaching generally serve distinct purposes and are not typically combined in the same plan. Recovery coaching is exclusively available to individuals whose primary disability is psychosocial in nature, while support coordination is open to all NDIS participants.

What is a Psychosocial Disability?

Psychosocial disability, as defined by the NDIS Commission, refers to mental health issues that have a significant impact on daily activities and social participation.

This may include disorders like schizophrenia, OCD, bipolar disorder, severe anxiety, and depression. These challenges often lead to reduced functional capacity in different areas. However, with the support of a recovery coach, individuals can embark on a transformative journey towards a purposeful and meaningful life.
